Date: 5 Jan
Time: 19:30-21:30
Fee: $150 (one drink included)
“Once upon a time, there were aliens roaming in the universe, hiding side-by-side in crevasse…”
From a social activist, artist, curator, bookstore manager, hacker, poet, gender queer and alien, there is no limit to what Holok Chen can do to embrace diversified identities. The story of Holok emerged from the time they studied in the Department of Philosophy of CUHK, where they wandered around the long-lost Choi Yuen Village, and the Wooferten in Yau Ma Tei. Their creations revolve around the themes of fragility of life, queer spaces, and gender nonconformity.
Their past community collaborations include The Coming Society, Wrong Side Café, VeryMK Rooftop Farm, “20,000 Ways To Die in Yau Ma Tei” guided tours and exhibitions, as well as the poetry book “Surviving Natality” (Small Tune Press, 2021).
Inspired by sci-fi movies and circus performers, Holok created a non-binary character who expresses deep feelings of loss and misery. Just like other aliens hidden in plain sight in the city, they brought wisdom of life from other planets. In this human library session, Holok will share their journey as an alien and demonstrate the process of makeup. Dear human or non-human, feel free to engage in this exciting dialogue with our friend from outer space to explore different possibilities of living on Earth!
