Project House Tai yuen st wanchai

壹屋計劃 灣仔太源街

Type: Community Engagement
Location: Tai Yuen Street, Wanchai Hong Kong
Client: Private
Year: Apr 2018

Tai Yuen Street is one of the streets connecting the commercial buildings along Queen’s Road East and Wan Chai MTR Station. The busy, pedestrian-only street is famous for its Pai Dongs (outdoor stalls) selling food, housewares, clothing, and more, as well as the many toy stores that offer a variety of childhood treasures. The majority of its targeted visitors are locals from all districts and tourists from different parts of the world, while office workers also walk pass the streets during weekdays. The vacant space is located behind the traditional Pai Dongs and among the toy stores in this hustling street. Apart from STYLE, EAT, LIVE, TRAVEL and SHARE, this third Project House also included the PLAY element in the theme to resonate with the original community of “Toy Street” and facilitate other vibrant events in Spring 2018.

With positive media exposure on previous Project House and the open call for collaborators, the Project House in Tai Yuen Street attracted a wider range of collaborators to join the platform which perfectly matched the different types of people on the street. Unlike the staff of the commercial shops on the main street, Kaifongs and owners of Pai Dongs and toy stores were very friendly and willing to share and help. This is the sense of belonging that Project House tries to rediscover in the community through the matching platform.
